"MATH IN KITCHEN"
MATH IN KITCHEN
To make a recipe work, all the measurements have to be perfect. Out of many spheres where mathematics is used, it is applied to the kitchen as well. All the utensils of kitchen are nothing but figures and shapes of mathematics.
OUR RESEARCH
We researched on existing mathematical concepts in kitchen.
INTERVIEWS
INTERACTION
CONCLUSION
Our research began with a tour to kitchen and how is it connected with maths. Kitchen holds a very special place in every household. We could find many interesting things related to maths which generally we tend to miss out. We did two activities involved in day to day chores in a typical Indian kitchen viz., making of chapattis (Indian Bread) and transferring of soup into bowls to show the conversion of solids from one shape to another. The beauty of the whole process was that at every stage shapes was changing but the volume remains constant.
Also, we observed some patterns in the kitchen. We took boxes of same shape but different dimensions. The dimensions were compared and found to follow Arithmetic Progression.

COMPARISON
1. College Wreet worked on sizes of ingredients required in a dish and PiuX college worked on multiple aspects of maths in the kitchen like Measuring devices, Enlargements and Ratio tables while we worked on existing mathematical concepts in the kitchen.
2. We recorded videos of our daily chores like making of chapattis but the other schools had uploaded pictures.

REFLECTION
We were excited about this project since its inception. And our enthusiasm gradually increased as we commenced to research about our topics. We didn't think that we would be able to showcase our methods and ideas in a proper manner. The project done on this aspect helped us understand that mathematics play on integral part of the most mundane trash like cooking. The concepts explored by us were quite similar to the ones explored by partner school. However arithmetic progression was more interesting finding.
